What is SaveCongress.org?
The federal government is encroaching more and more on our personal liberties. Taxes and government debt are out of control. Congressmen are ignoring the wishes of their constituents. Educating ourselves and forming watch groups are excellent things to do, but ultimately, it is our congressmen who are writing and supporting unconstitutional legislation, and they must be replaced. SaveCongress.org was created by ordinary, private citizens as a hub where anyone in the country can go to (1) quickly check on their congressmen and (2) find liberty-minded candidates to replace them, if necessary.

Can I really make a difference?
Yes. Of the total of 535 members of Congress, 468 are up for re-election every two years. This means that in the 2012 election, we could replace 87% of the entire Congress. Please think about it, and please get the word out. Voter turnout for primary elections (the elections that matter the most) is very low--often below 20%, meaning that only 1 in 5 eligible voters actually takes the trouble to vote. If each liberty-minded person made the effort to educate and encourage three or four other people, it would change the face of our elections.

This is all new to me. Where should I start?
Educate yourself. Begin with the United States Constitution, giving special attention to Article 1, Section 8, which explains the specific responsibilities of the Congress. We would then direct you to our Suggested Reading List. While many books address the topic of freedom and tyranny, the ones listed on our website were selected because they provide a lot of information very quickly and very clearly. Our highest recommendation goes to The Creature from Jekyll Island, which explains in clear, simple terms, precisely what has caused the country to veer toward socialism and why. Additionally, the videos on our site (see "Videos" on the homepage) have also been chosen for their clarity and simplicity. "Overview of America" is an excellent video to start with.

How can I quickly check on my congressmen?
To see how your congressmen are voting, go to the homepage and click on "My Congressmen." Click on your state from the map, and you will be taken to the Campaign For Liberty website, which will provide a quick take on some of your congressmen's recent votes: votes in green indicate votes based on constitutional principles; votes in red indicate unconstitutional legislation and are a signal that this congressman may need to be replaced.

What if I don't know who my congressmen are?
From the homepage, click on "My Congressmen," and follow the appropriate links.

How do you decide which congressmen to include on the Thumbs-up List?
We recognize that no one is perfect, but to win a place on our Thumbs-up List, a congressman must demonstrate a basic understanding of his constitutional limits. A congressman should not sponsor or vote for a particular program or piece of legislation just because he likes the program. Congress is only authorized to make laws which are necessary to carry out its constitutional responsibilities. All other legislation, which may include laws governing public education, government welfare, or healthcare, for instance, may be considered by individual states, for implementation within that state only. (For more information on the vital importance of states' rights and limited federal power, see our article entitled, "Constitutional Competition.")

Issues like education, healthcare, and help for the poor are important to me. Shouldn't the government be involved?
Programs such as these have the potential for good and are constitutionally permissible at a state level. On the other hand, when implemented by federal mandate, they stifle competition and amount to a form of tyranny. Please read the article entitled, "Constitutional Competition" to better understand the tremendously important difference between federal and state legislation.

What is the Federal Reserve, and why should I be concerned?
The Federal Reserve is a group of private bankers who have been given the sole power to print up money, then to loan it out and earn interest on it as well. By creating money out of thin air, the "Fed" has been wreaking havoc on our economy through massive inflation and loss of purchasing power ever since Congress passed the Federal Reserve Act in 1913. G. Edward Griffin, in his excellent book The Creature from Jekyll Island, says it best: "It is not federal, and there are no reserves" (p. 1). We cannot recommend this book highly enough. The first 100 pages alone are so informative and well documented that they are worth the price of the entire book. To purchase it, or to watch a free 2-hour video summary of the book by the author himself, click here.

Is this a message of gloom and doom?
Generally speaking, people do not like to hear that the country is veering off track or that troubled times are looming. After all, Americans still enjoy the highest standard of living of any country in the world, and individual families are largely prospering. However, the biggest problem is not where we're standing; it's the direction we're facing. American patriot and esteemed religious leader Ezra Taft Benson (1899-1994) said, "We must never forget that nations may sow the seeds of their own destruction while enjoying unprecedented prosperity" (see the article "The American Heritage of Freedom," quoted in God, Family, Country: Our Three Great Loyalties, p. 343). For many decades, our federal government has been usurping power that should have remained with the states or with individuals--and this trend is increasing at an alarming rate. However, the message we are promoting at SaveCongress.org is that we can reverse this trend. By diligently promoting and electing congressmen who will support and defend the Constitution, we can regain our lost freedoms, reduce the nation's debt, and guarantee continued prosperity for the generations that will follow. Far from a message of despair, it is one of encouragement and optimism.

I don't have a lot of extra time. Can I still help?
Yes. There are many things you can do that don't take much time. Here are just a few:
• E-mail friends with a link to SaveCongress.org. The more people participating in the effort to replace irresponsible congressmen with honorable patriots, the sooner we can return our country to the constitutional principles upon which it was founded.
• Print out and distribute this flier. Keep a few copies in the glove compartment, kitchen drawer, or other handy spot, so that you can give them to friends as opportunities arise.
• Educate yourself. The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve, by G. Edward Griffin, is one of the most enlightening books you'll ever read and can be read a few paragraphs at a time, whenever you can spare a few minutes. None Dare Call It Conspiracy, by Gary Allen, is a shorter but valuable book. You can read it online by clicking here or order it from Radio Liberty by calling 1-800-544-8927.
